Inclusive Education for Children

CHISOM champions equal access to education for orphans and children in Mpigi. Through our efforts, 759 children have enrolled and regularly attended school, with 80% progressing to secondary education, ensuring brighter futures for these young learners.

Our Approach

At CHISOM, we believe in a community-centered and holistic strategy to improve the lives of children in Mpigi. Our work integrates education, health, and economic empowerment, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive in a supportive environment.

Educational Campaigns

Educational campaigns are vital for raising awareness and fostering understanding about children’s rights and issues affecting their well-being. CHISOM conducts targeted campaigns to inform and engage the community, educators, and policymakers about the importance of protecting and promoting children’s rights. These campaigns include workshops, seminars, and public awareness.

Basic Education for Orphans

Since 1994, our Basic Education program has provided vital opportunities for orphans and young people by covering school fees, supplying scholastic materials, and offering nutritious school lunches. This program currently supports 181 children enrolled in partner schools across Mpigi Town Council, giving them the chance to learn in a stable and encouraging environment.

Nutrition Programme

Nutrition is a fundamental element of child growth and development. Our Nutrition Programme identifies children at risk of malnutrition and tackles poor diet through various initiatives. We provide nutritional education, promote kitchen gardening, and distribute high-nourishment and early-maturing planting materials to ensure that children receive the balanced diet necessary

Health Education

Health education is crucial for preventing diseases and promoting healthy lifestyles among children and their caregivers. CHISOM provides accurate information on health and hygiene, helps identify risks of sexual abuse, and empowers children to protect themselves. Our work is especially critical following the COVID-19 pandemic, which has seen a rise in teenage pregnancies and sexual violence. Health education fosters safer behavior and builds resilience in the community.

Village Saving Loan Association (VSLA)

CHISOM organizes Village Saving Loan Associations (VSLA) for caregivers, enabling them to save and borrow money. This initiative started in 2012 and now includes groups in three partner schools. The VSLAs have empowered caregivers to start small businesses, improve financial literacy, and support their families' basic needs. This economic empowerment initiative is a key aspect of our holistic approach to community development.

Child Protection program

Children, especially orphans, are often cared for by grandparents, relatives, or neighbors, where their rights can sometimes be overlooked. CHISOM’s Child Protection program works to safeguard these children by organizing regular guardians' meetings to educate caregivers on respecting children's rights. Our social workers ensure that children live in safe, nurturing environments where they are protected and encouraged to reach their full potential.
